How to Break Free From Performance Based Christianity
Getting Out of the Toxic Cycle of Performance in Your Christian Walk Has the Potential to Revolutionize Your Life
Ever felt that everyone around you appreciates or recognizes what you do rather than who you are?
Understanding the difference in the question I asked above is the key to breaking free from this never ending toxic cycle.
Whether or not you ever realized, you’d definitely agree that almost everyone around you including your family members appreciate when you do a great job regardless of the task.
Did you get a bonus and promotion at work? You are awesome.
Have you prepared a lavish meal on a special occasion? You are incredible.
Did you help a friend or a dear one solve a problem that was probably a matter of life and death for them? Genius.
But, how can you…
forget to do just that ONE thing…? You are irresponsible, slow, insert the name tag.
Now if you are great at all those above things then why did you get a harsh comment like the last one?
That’s how performance based Christianity looks like and here’s how you break free from it by embracing the truth.
You Are Not Defined By Your Actions but By Who You Are
Performance based Christianity will push you to keep proving yourself to others. It will kick you the hardest to make you believe that you will become a better Christian ONE day.
Living as a Christian based on performance alone will never let you realize who you are in Christ.
When we are born again, we achieve a status of the children of God and this status says it all: Know that you are loved by God for who you are, not just for what you do.
Ready to Break Free From Performance Based Christianity?
If God would look at you right now, he won’t see your sins (or mistakes or things you forgot to do because you were outright overwhelmed...) but He will see whether or not you are in Christ.
The key element is whether or not you have the spirit of God in you.
“You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.” Romans 8:9
