Are You Getting Consumed with Constant Guilt Over Your Lack of Daily Bible Reading?

Do you feel perplexed that other Christians are having a rich experience with scriptures while you are awaiting the same experience for your life?

If that’s you then it clearly demonstrates that you aren’t approaching daily Bible reading the right way.

What do I mean when I say “the right way” to read the Bible?

When other books look more interesting and exciting than the Bible, chances are you aren’t reading your Bible with a goal in mind.

The question is:

Do you really know what that goal is?

Why Daily Bible Reading Feels Like a Battle.

Many people recommend that you complete reading the entire Bible in a year or 15 minutes a day or maybe an hour, but…

…did you ever think it’s the right approach?

I don’t believe it is.

And I say that simply because Bible reading is a divine meeting with the Lord. We can’t treat it like clockwork.

Imagine for a moment that God is standing right in front of you and asking you to spend a few more minutes with Him, would you tell Him,

I’m sorry God, the time to stay in your presence is over. I can’t stay here and talk to you anymore.

When the perspective to come in God’s presence through reading the scripture is time bound, the experience will be nothing else but emptiness and hopelessness.

Why? Because…

You aren’t seeing Bible reading as a time to hear what God is speaking but you are constantly looking at the clock with your to-do list in mind.

You are not focusing on Bible reading and meditation as a conversation with God where He speaks His heart to your situation.

Instead, you might be reading the Bible merely scanning the words. That doesn’t have the potential to touch your soul.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John 15:7

The goal is to have God’s word abide in you so your life becomes a daily walk with the Lord.

Why Daily Bible Reading Makes You Sleepy.

Bible Reading can make you sleepy.

Do you know why?

A couple of reasons.

You stay up so late you're too tired to make it a priority in the early morning.

You're trudging through Genesis - Revelation and feel stuck because you are unable to relate to certain sections. You can’t see how they apply to your current life situations.

You're not underlining what is meaningful to you.

You're not conducting Bible reading in small groups where you can share what you've experienced. Sharing increases your faith because faith comes by hearing.

But one major reason reading the Bible is tough is that it's a spiritual battle.

The Bible clearly and repeatedly warns us there is a Satan and his fallen angels who work against us. They are as real as air. We must be equipped to fight the battle.

So what to do to counter it on a daily basis?

We must rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to fight that battle. And Bible reading is our biggest tool to conquer.

Why Daily Bible Reading Feels Like a Burden.

Let’s admit.

Many of us begin our day with checking our mobiles.

We can’t wait to see the messages or emails from our friends. Our eyes are locked on the screen thinking which email to respond to first.

Checking mobiles isn’t wrong at all.

But t’s not ideal to check news, sports or Facebook the first thing in the morning.

For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.” Romans 11:16

God wants us to keep Him above everything. That essentially means the first fruit of our day i.e. our first minute or hour should be dedicated to thanking, praising and worshiping God. As a Christian, we are supposed to focus on God’s word before anything else.

When you dedicate the first bit of your time to the Lord, you start your day with a bang. You don’t realize but when you don’t read the Bible and meditate on it first thing in the morning, you feel a strange uneasiness and dissatisfaction.

Now you know why.
